Scholarship Details
A. CAO School-Leaver Scholarship (full year-1 fee exemption)
What it is: CCT runs an annual scholarship scheme for CAO applicants (school-leavers) that can provide a full exemption for year-1 tuition (details published annually).
Who is eligible: Applicants who apply through the CAO for the relevant CCT programme (usually computing/ICT or business pathways). Exact eligibility and availability are published each year.
How to apply (CCT’s instructions):
Apply to your chosen CCT programme via the CAO system.
Send a letter of application plus a one-page essay explaining your motivation for a career in Computing/ICT or Business.
Provide details of any computing/business projects you’ve completed (portfolio, GitHub links, project summary).
If shortlisted, attend an in-house interview with CCT (semi-structured: prior academics, career plans, commitment).
Where to verify / next step: CCT’s Financing page and the CAO entry for the programme.
B. General Student Scholarships — three awards (up to €1,000 each)
What it is: CCT awards three partial scholarships of up to €1,000 to Irish school-leavers (announced annually). The college invites applications and interviews.
Eligibility: School-leaver applicants who request consideration on their application form and perform well in the in-house interview (academic record, motivation, interview performance).
How to apply: Indicate interest on your CCT/CAO application and submit the one-page essay / supporting project evidence; interview if shortlisted.
C. Installment & payment supports + Tax Relief
Installment plans: CCT can arrange instalment payments (majority of fees must be paid before term; outstanding by end of first semester).
Tax relief: Irish tax relief on third-level tuition may be claimed by qualifying taxpayers (rules apply for course length and provider); CCT issues receipts to support claims. This can reduce effective cost for sponsor/payor.
2) Funded programmes that act like scholarships (high value) — Springboard+
What is Springboard+ (short)
Springboard+ is an Irish Government / HEA initiative that funds targeted courses at levels 6–9. Funding categories:
Returners / Jobseekers: often free (100% funded).
Employed / Recent graduates: 90% funded (you pay a 10% contribution), depending on the specific intake and course rules.
CCT Springboard+ provision (2025/2026 examples)
CCT lists funded programmes for Sept 2025 intake, including:
Diploma in Networking & Systems Security (Level 7)
Diploma in AI and Working into the Future (Level 7)
Diploma in Data Analytics for Business (Level 7)
Higher Diploma in Science Data Analytics for Business (Level 8)
Postgraduate Diploma in Cybersecurity (Level 9)
Certificate in Data Preparation and Visualisation (Level 9 micro-credential).
Eligibility & evidence (high-level)
Eligibility is set by Springboard+: categories such as employed / recent graduate / jobseeker / returner. The HEA/Springboard site lists acceptable evidence (employment letters, P60, Garda/DEASP paperwork, graduation date proof, etc.). CCT directs applicants to the Springboard pages for precise evidence lists. Important: many Springboard+ benefits are only available to EU/Irish residents — non-EU international students are generally not eligible unless they hold relevant Irish residency / PPS / employment status. Always check the Springboard official site for country/residency filters.
3) Research scholarships & targeted awards (CCT ARC / research office)
The CCT Research Strategy (2019–2024) states that two research scholarships would be established (one for the School of Business and one for the School of ICT). These are targeted awards linked to the College’s research agenda; details and availability vary year-to-year and are managed via CCT’s ARC/research office. If you’re a prospective postgraduate/research candidate, contact the research office for up-to-date funding calls.
4) Third-party & external scholarships commonly accessible to CCT students
International students should also look beyond CCT for scholarship funding — many external grants are open to students who enrol at CCT:
Government of Ireland / International Education Scholarships — country-specific awards for non-EU students (check HEA / Irish government calls each year).
Fulbright (for US citizens), bilateral government scholarships, private foundations (e.g., ACES), Erasmus+ mobility grants (if your home university has a partnership), and discipline-specific awards. These funds are not administered by CCT but are available to students who meet each provider’s rules. Use portals like ScholarshipsPortal, StudyinIreland, and national embassies to search. (Examples of such listings appear on scholarship aggregator sites that list opportunities for CCT students.)
5) Who (realistically) can access each funding route?
International students on a standard Non-EEA student visa
Eligible: CCT internal scholarships (if you meet CAO / programme entry and apply as required) and many third-party scholarships that accept any institution.
Usually NOT eligible: Springboard+ funded places unless you hold the required Irish residency/employment status (Springboard is primarily for Irish/EU residents). Always verify eligibility on the Springboard official pages.
EU / Irish residents (including returning grads / employed in Ireland)
Eligible for: Springboard+ (90–100% funding depending on category), tax relief, and CCT internal scholarships.
Research / PhD applicants
Eligible for: CCT research scholarships and external research council grants — contact CCT research office for cycles and deadlines.

Application Essentials
Most academic and merit scholarships are considered automatically with your course application.
Some scholarships (e.g., Bernard Duffy, 1916 Bursary, Kickstart, Sanctuary Scheme) require separate applications or supporting documentation (transcripts, statement of purpose, socio-economic evidence).
Scholarship deadlines usually fall between March and September for September intake applicants.
Pro Tips for Success:
Submit academic transcripts and IELTS scores early — merit schemes often review the submitted file first.
For niche scholarships (like Sanctuary, Kickstart, or 1916 Fund), prepare a clear personal statement linking your background to the scholarship’s aims.
Keep track of deadlines, as many schemes close months before the intake begins.
Main scholarships you are likely to encounter
1) Academic Merit Scholarship (AMS)
What it is: A merit-based scholarship awarded to international applicants at admission. It’s structured into three levels (Level 1, 2, 3) based on the strength of prior academic achievement.
How it affects fees: The AMS reduces your tuition — example calculations appear in the college’s Non-EU tuition PDF (the PDF includes worked examples showing gross fees and how AMS reduces them). Exact reduction per level is country-specific (i.e., the academic achievement threshold varies by country).
How to apply: AMS is normally considered automatically at admission — submit your full application and transcripts; the admissions/scholarship team will assess eligibility. If you’re unsure, contact Griffith’s admissions team.
2) Griffith Global Excellence Scholarship (country / cohort specific)
What it is: A competitive scholarship run periodically for students from specific countries (example: a Malaysia-targeted competition that offered 50% tuition for selected candidates). Availability and country focus can change year to year
Eligibility & selection: Selection is academic (CGPA / transcripts) and sometimes competitive (limited number of awards). Applicants must still show they can fund remaining tuition + living costs.
How to apply: These scholarships may require a separate application or submission of supporting documents; check the specific scholarship announcement or contact the international office for the current round.
3) Government of Ireland — International Education Scholarships (GOI-IES)
What it is: A national scholarship programme run by Ireland (select Irish institutions participate). Griffith College participates in GOI-IES for certain years/intakes. These scholarships are highly competitive and aimed at outstanding international students for master’s programmes.
Key requirement: GOI-IES applicants must meet all entry requirements at time of application (no conditional offers for GOI-IES). If you want GOI-IES you must apply through the GOI process and ensure your programme application is complete.
4) Other bursaries & discounts
Sibling discounts and programme-specific bursaries may be available (details and applicability are listed in the college’s fees & bursaries documents). These are often applied at registration or admission as appropriate.
Key eligibility points & documentation you’ll need
Academic transcripts / certificates (official, certified where requested). AMS thresholds are country-specific so transcripts matter.
Proof of English language (IELTS / TOEFL / equivalent) where required for your program — some scholarships (like GOI-IES) require full meeting of entry/English requirements at time of application.
Evidence of funds — even with a scholarship you must usually show you can cover remaining tuition and living costs for visa purposes. This is explicitly stated for large awards (e.g., GGES).
Timeliness: Scholarships tied to admission are typically assessed at offer stage — apply early and upload full documentation to increase your chances.
Typical application flow (practical checklist)
Choose programme on Griffith College site and check exact tuition for that course (non-EU fees documents list programme fees and examples).
Prepare documents: transcripts, English test, CV (if requested), passport ID page, reference letters (if required).
Submit programme application (online). Many Griffith scholarships (eg. AMS) are considered at offer stage automatically — make sure your application is complete.
Check scholarship pages / announcements (some country-specific scholarships have a separate application). If applying for GOI-IES, follow the GOI application process and meet its deadlines.
If offered a scholarship, confirm any conditions (e.g., full-time enrolment, continuous satisfactory progress) and retain proof for visa / financial compliance.

At UCC, we understand there is more than one way to achieve your goals which is why we are committed to making quality university education accessible to everyone. UCC specialises in preparing both domestic and international students for successful university study by offering a number of scholarships to enable suitably qualified students to undertake full-time study towards a university degree. Selection is based on academic merit, previous experience as well as research potential.
A long list of opportunities for both domestic and international applications, as well as travel funding for current students, can be found on this site. As students may be eligible for more than one scholarship or bursary, we encourage them to explore the website and submit multiple applications if applicable.
Quick headline facts
UCC awards around 1,000 scholarships and bursaries each year (many are open to international students).
Many international scholarships at UCC are automatically awarded at offer stage (i.e., based on the academic record you submitted with your application) — particularly college-level merit awards. Always check your full offer (not a conditional offer) for scholarship wording.
Types of scholarships you’ll find at UCC
(major categories — details and eligibility below)
Automatically-awarded college/department merit scholarships (no separate application) — e.g., SEFS and CBL college scholarships.
Central International Student Scholarships / International Merit scholarships (taught postgraduate focus; merit-based; values vary). (UCC publishes lists and some awards are €4k–€8k in 3rd-party summaries; check your offer for exact figure.)
External government / national scholarships — e.g., Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships (annual competition for non-EU students at NFQ Level 9/10 — UCC participates).
Research/PhD funding and externally-sponsored PhD scholarships — including structured PhD awards and partnerships (e.g., China Scholarship Council-UCC joint PhD calls).
College/School specific awards & prizes — small to large funds targeted to particular programmes (e.g., Nursing, Languages, Business, Food Science). Many of these are automatic or by departmental application.
Representative scholarship offers
SEFS (Science, Engineering & Food Science) — International Merit Scholarships
Awarded automatically at offer stage to non-EU applicants to SEFS programmes.
Typical value: varies (e.g., some are €2,000 p.a. for UG; others are merit-based for PG). No separate application — scholarship appears in your full offer if awarded.
College of Business & Law — International Undergraduate Scholarship
Value: €2,000 per annum (example UG scholarship automatically awarded at offer). Cannot be combined with other UCC scholarships.
College / School postgraduate excellence awards
Examples: SLLC Excellence Scholarship (covers EU fees for specific MA programmes), other college-level fee reductions for first class honours holders (20% fee reduction for 1H1, etc., depending on college). Many are automatic on acceptance for non-EU applicants.
Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships (GOI)
Open competition managed nationally; UCC students may apply/compete for these awards (60 awards nationally each year — for NFQ level 9/10, one year). Check HEA / UCC noticeboard for UCC’s call.
China Scholarship Council (CSC) – UCC PhD Partnerships
Where active, applicants first apply to UCC and then to CSC by the CSC deadline; UCC evaluates candidates prior to CSC submission. Timelines are strict (UCC application deadlines, then CSC deadline).
Who is typically eligible?
Be a non-EU (international) fee-paying applicant (many international scholarships are specifically for non-EU students).
Hold or be predicted to hold a strong academic record (first class / upper second equivalents for the bigger merit awards). Many awards are merit-based and use previous transcripts / GPA equivalence.
Have a full (unconditional) offer in your UCC Application Portal (CRM) — conditional offers usually do not show scholarship awards until conditions are met.
For some scholarships (e.g., government schemes, refugee support, country-specific) there are additional residency or documentation requirements.
How scholarships are awarded (common patterns)
Automatic at offer stage — UCC evaluates your academic documents and enters scholarship text in your full offer letter (no separate application). This is common for college merit awards.
Departmental application / interview — smaller departmental prizes or some PhD studentships require a bespoke application and/or interview.
External competition — apply outside UCC (e.g., Government of Ireland awards, CSC) where UCC provides supporting documentation if you are shortlisted.
