Degree Transfer Information Technology

The University of Newcastle College of International Education (CIE) provides pathway programs that are designed to help international students transition into undergraduate degrees at the University of Newcastle. The Degree Transfer Extended programs (including Information Technology) are equivalent to Year 1 of a university degree, but include an extra semester to strengthen academic, English and technical foundations before you continue into a bachelor’s degree.

The Degree Transfer Extended Information Technology includes:

Bridging Semester (Trimester 1 – Non-credit)

These introductory units help prepare you for the core technical content:

  • Computing

  • Statistics

Core IT Content (Semesters 2 & 3)

You study the same curriculum as University of Newcastle Year 1 IT students:

Six Core Courses:

  • COMP1010 Computing Fundamentals

  • COMP1140 Database and Information Management

  • SENG1110 Object Oriented Programming

  • SENG1050 Web Technologies

  • Academic English A

  • Academic English B

 

Four Directed Courses (choose from):

  • ACFI1001 Accounting for Decision Makers

  • ENGG1003 Introduction to Procedural Programming

  • MATH1110 Maths for Engineering, Science and Tech 1

  • MATH1510 Discrete Mathematics

  • SENG1120 Data Structures

  • STAT1060 Business Decision Making

International students must obtain an Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500) to study on campus. Requirements include:

  • Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from CIE
  • Proof of tuition + living funds
  • OSHC health cover
  • Valid passport and academic documents
