Introduction to Greek History

This course, led by Dr. Shane Wallace, provides an introductory survey of the history of the Greek world, from the Greek Archaic age to the Hellenistic period. The main trends and issues of this period will be explored through themes such as colonisation, imperialism, war, the Athenian invention of democracy, and the rise of Alexander. On completing the module, students should be able to evaluate primary source material and secondary literature, outline key events in Greek history, and present relevant evidence from primary and secondary sources within a structured argument.

Shane has worked at Trinity since 2011 on the history and epigraphy of the Hellenistic world, in particular mainland Greece, the Aegean, and western Asia Minor. His main research focus is on the study of the relationship between city and king in the Hellenistic period.
