Our refreshed and hands-on programme will equip you with the tools you need to teach in modern classrooms where building strong relationships is vital, diversity is celebrated and digital learning is key.

With greater freedom for you to choose courses from other disciplines across the University, you will develop foundational critical and ethical thinking, communication, and collaborative skills essential for success in the workforce. Courses cover a range of topics, including child development. Our required Waipapa Taumata Rau course focuses on core knowledge relevant to our faculty, the significance of place-based knowledge, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

This is a highly practical degree. Each year of the programme will include an in-school practicum experience where you will have dedicated blocks of time in a range of schools. While on practicum, you'll have the guidance of dedicated teachers, as well as support from university staff.

Over the first two years of the programme you will have some flexibility in the timing of your required teaching experience days. In the third year of the programme, you will complete 80 days of sustained teaching experience where you will establish connections to set you up in your career and gain vital skills to prepare you for the transition into teaching.

You will be taught by academics who are experts in their fields and passionate about supporting the next generation of teachers. Courses are taught through a range of methods including face-to-face lectures, tutorials and workshops. Our tutorials are hands-on and provide a range of practical ideas and resources you can take onto practicum with you.
