This module examines the theoretical foundations and application of therapeutic engagement and counselling. The module analyses a range of approaches in healthcare practice, such as cognitive and behavioural, humanistic, and psychodynamic approaches to the therapeutic process and counselling. Particular attention is given to therapeutic engagement with specific client needs across the care continuum.

 

This module will build on previous knowledge/skills to facilitate practitioners to use therapeutic engagement at specialist/ advanced levels in healthcare practice. Therapeutic engagement is an essential means through which healing and personal growth and development are achieved within nursing, midwifery and healthcare practice. Participants completing this module will improve the efficacy of their current practice through increased knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and its use in addressing maladaptive cognition and behaviour.
