Master of Education
Why Study / Key Benefits
- The Master of Education (MEd) is designed for educational practitioners and graduates who want to deepen their knowledge, strengthen professional practice and advance their careers in education.
- The programme allows students to explore areas such as curriculum, pedagogy, educational policy, research and other specialist areas of education.
- Students learn from academics and researchers working in internationally recognised areas of education research.
- The qualification develops advanced skills in educational research, critical analysis, independent study, problem-solving and professional communication.
- Students can choose a research-oriented pathway through a research-based inquiry, dissertation or thesis.
- The programme can be studied full-time or part-time, making it suitable for education professionals who want to continue working while studying.
- The University currently states that its Education subject is ranked among the top 250 universities worldwide for Education in the QS World University Rankings. Waikato is also ranked equal 293rd globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027, placing it in the top 1.5% worldwide.
- An important distinction for prospective international students: the Master of Education is not an initial teacher-training qualification and does not itself lead to teacher registration in New Zealand.
