Bachelor of Arts (Aboriginal Studies)

The Bachelor of Arts (Aboriginal Studies) enables students to understand the past and contemporary experiences of Aboriginal peoples in Australia and internationally. Students will acquire a general knowledge of different aspects of Aboriginal cultures and how these have undergone change and adaptation, and develop skills in constructing critical arguments and analysing topics in terms of their historical and contemporary contexts.

 

Students will study a range of courses within Aboriginal Studies that covers topics such as Aboriginal Cultures, Aboriginal philosophy, Caring for Country, Law, Land and People plus 2 new courses centred on globalisation and Aboriginal nation building. The Aboriginal Studies major reflects national and international trends in the discipline of Aboriginal Studies and articulate the many voices, perspectives and priorities of Aboriginal peoples and communities. Graduates will have cognitive and technical skills to work and collaborate with Aboriginal community; creative skills to exercise critical thinking and judgement in identifying opportunities and solutions to problems related to colonisation and globalisation in contemporary societies; and communication skills to present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas within the local and global society.



Graduates will have a second Arts major to expand their technical, analytical and communicative skills essential for practice in the professional environments and further learning in a culturally diverse global marketplace.



Students will complete 108 units of study comprising 9 units of core courses, 36 units of an Arts specialisation, 36 units of a second Arts major, 18 units of a minor, and 9 units of electives.
