Spanish Studies
Spanish is the second most-spoken native language in the world, and UWA is the only university in WA to offer Spanish Studies. Achieve competency in listening, speaking, writing and reading the language. Experience the culture and learn about the lifestyle and achievements of Spaniards both in Spain and in the 20 Spanish-speaking countries around the world.
When you study Spanish at UWA, you'll immerse yourself in the vibrant Spanish way of life. Our beginners' major consists of eight units that introduce cultural and intellectual elements, covering Spanish cities and regions, food and folklore, cultural aspects, and literature. You'll also develop functional language skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking. From classic and contemporary Spanish literature to must-watch films, current series, and significant cultural movements in Spain today, you'll enjoy a holistic and engaging cultural and educational experience.
Students who have already taken official Spanish courses in high school or at other universities can enrol directly in Spanish Studies 3 (SPAN1403). Students who are native speakers of Spanish will not be granted access to any of these units as we don't currently offer an advanced stream.
