Podiatric Health and Medical Sciences
This extended major is only available to students who are offered an Assured Pathway to the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. It covers pre-clinical biomedical and podiatric health sciences as well as foundations of podiatric clinical skills. It draws on all biomedical scientific disciplines to understand and manage human disease and illness. It contains foundational learning about the role of a podiatrist and introduces the student to pre-clinical podiatry training.
This extended major leads into the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. It covers pre-clinical biomedical and podiatric health sciences as well as foundations of podiatric clinical skills. It will provide students the background knowledge across all the biomedical scientific disciplines including, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, haematology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology and public health. These disciplines are integrated throughout the course. Clinical communication, professional content and research skills are presented throughout the major. The major will also include studies on aspects of Australian society and culture, including Aboriginal health and migrant and refugee health. It also contains foundational learning about the role of a podiatrist and introduces the student to pre-clinical practical podiatry training.
