La Trobe's Master of Nursing lets you match your study to your career aspirations. Enhance your knowledge and skills in specialist areas by choosing from a range of clinical and non-clinical subjects.

If you're a registered nurse working in Australia, you'll have access to a wide variety of specialisations. Enjoy a flexible, blended learning approach that combines face-to-face workshops with online study that you can fit around your work commitments and access from anywhere. For a clinical specialisation you will also undertake advanced clinical training in your own hospital's relevant work setting.

If you're looking to pursue a career as nursing educator, academic or manager, you'll have access to our online non-clinical specialisations. Develop advanced knowledge of nursing research along with the critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills you need to thrive as a nursing researcher, educator or leader.

International students

Academic entry requirement

Prerequisites

Applicants must be a Division 1 Registered Nurse and hold a current practising certificate with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). This does not apply to International applicants.

Entry to Neonatal specialties and Clinical specialisations and pathways are open to Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Registered Midwives with a Bachelor qualification (or equivalent).

Successful completion of a recognised Nursing degree (equivalent to an Australian Bachelors degree).

Applicants for the clinical specialisations and pathways must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and employed in the relevant clinical specialist area or an approved agency, or have applied to the agency to undertake your clinical placement at the time of applying for the course. In the latter case, an offer into the course will be conditional upon confirmation of the clinical placement.

Clinical specialisations and pathways are not available to international applicants.

Selection criteria

  • The University will access your official transcript upon application.

  • Applicants with an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline or related area will receive credit of up to 60 credit points.

    The following subjects will be credited as advanced standing for cognate students:

    NSM4CNE CRITICAL NURSING ESSENTIALS

    NSM4001 ADVANCED HEALTH ASSESSMENT

    30 credit points of LTU5YLC

    Applicants with an Australian Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) or an Australian Honours degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline or related area may be eligible to receive credit of up to 120 credit points, including the subjects listed above.

    Applicants with over 2 years of relevant work experience may be eligible to receive credit of up to 60 credit points

Note: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

English language requirement

6.5 IELTS (Academic) with no individual band less than 6.0.

Fees and scholarships

Estimated course fees for international students

Estimated fees per year (2023):A$33 600 per 120 credit points.
Note: 120 credit points represents full-time study for one year.

Destination Australia – an Australian Government initiative

The Destination Australia scheme supports new international students to study in regional Australia and offers students a high-quality learning experience. For eligible applicants, these scholarships are worth up to A$15 000 per annum for up to four years.
