Academic entry requirement

Prerequisites

Successful completion of an Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent).

Specialisation - compulsory: In a relevant discipline area for primary teaching as per the National Program Standards and the Victorian Institute of Teaching. For a primary focus these may include; Science, Mathematics, Arts (Visual Arts/Drama/Music/Dance/Media Studies), Humanities (Geography, History), Languages, Physical Education/Health, English, IT.

Selection criteria

  • All applicants will complete the CASPer test to support selection into teaching programs. CASPer is a requirement for many of the initial teacher training courses in Victoria. It is a non-cognitive online test designed to assess an applicant's personal and professional attributes. To register for your sitting or further information about the test, visit the CASPer Test website.

Note: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

English language requirement

7.0 IELTS (Academic) with no individual band less than 7.0 and a score of no less than 7.5 in Speaking and Listening.

Fees and scholarships

Estimated course fees for international students

Estimated fees per year (2023):A$33 600 per 120 credit points.
Note: 120 credit points represents full-time study for one year.

Destination Australia – an Australian Government initiative

The Destination Australia scheme supports new international students to study in regional Australia and offers students a high-quality learning experience. For eligible applicants, these scholarships are worth up to A$15 000 per annum for up to four years.
