IBEC-Middle Years Programme
Welcome to the DePaul University International Baccalaureate Educator Certificate (IBEC) program in Teaching and Learning for the Middle-Years Programme (MYP), ages 11-16, certificate shapes pre-service, new, and experienced educators like you into reflective practitioners and teacher-researchers ready for teaching within an IB MYP Programme.
The IBEC MYP consists of four key modules/courses that are research-based and emphasize knowledge of the IB literature and ongoing research. This program focuses on developing practical knowledge of how the IB programmes are designed, interpreted, and implemented. This lays the foundation for how the programmes are delivered and assessed in support of your learning. Demonstrating an understanding of the IB’s programme curriculum frameworks and the processes that underpin them is thus an integral part of the knowledge that you should possess. The program provides you with an in-depth examination of the IB MYP curriculum framework, processes of teaching and learning, methods of assessment, and the keys to implementing teaching within a global context.
The IBEC MYP at DePaul University is a self-paced, fully online program. It can be completed in a minimum of two academic quarters or 22 weeks, during which you will not be required to follow a specific schedule or calendar. The pre-requisite for enrollment in the fully online IBEC is that the candidate has earned a bachelor's or master's degree. No IB experience is needed.
