IBEC - Leadership Practice Programme
Welcome to the DePaul University International Baccalaureate Educator Certificate (IBEC) program in Leadership Practices (LP). The content of this certificate shapes pre-service, new, and experienced educators like you into reflective practitioners and teacher-researchers ready for teaching within an IB PYP Programme.
The IBEC LP consists of four key modules/courses that are research-based and emphasize knowledge of the IB literature and ongoing research:
- Leadership Theory and Practice. Within this course, students will learn philosophy and mission; strategic planning; policy development; organizational structures and roles; culture and ethos; and resourcing and infrastructure.
- Curriculum and Program Design. Within this course, students will learn curriculum design and implementation; curriculum articulation and coherence; instructional design, assessment strategy, policy and practice; reporting and feedback; and evaluating learning.
- IB Leadership in Schools. Within this course, students will learn building learning communities; professional development planning and policy; developing leadership capacity; team building and deployment; and appraisal and performance.
- The History, Philosophy of International Baccalaureate Education. Within this course, students will learn school-parent relationships; the legal and political environment; and external relations and communication.
The IBEC in LP at DePaul University is a fully online program that is self-paced. The fully online IBEC for LP may be completed in a minimum of two quarters or 22 weeks. Therefore, you will not be required to follow a specific schedule or calendar. The pre-requisite for enrollment in the fully online IBEC is that the candidate has earned a bachelor or master degree. No IB experience is needed.

From this LP programme, participants will receive:
- A deep understanding of the various ways in which IB educational leadership can be understood, applied, and how this leadership impacts learning
- Insight into the interplay between the mission of IB, leadership intelligences, management, and the authentic leadership of IB schools
- Skills in developing the dimensions of one’s IB leadership within all educational contexts
- Skills to develop a focused approach to leading change in one’s IB educational context
- Skills of reflection and practitioner-inquiry as an IB leader
- Capacity to lead collaborative planning and reflective, professional practice within IB educational contexts
