Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Certificate

  • Articulate the ways in which systems of power, privilege, and oppression shape our experiences as individuals and members of communities. 
  • Develop skills and effective strategies for advancing social justice.

While core coursework taught by the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program is required, students are expected to take the bulk of their elective coursework from approved Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program classes offered throughout the different academic units on campus. A total of 27 credits is required for the certificate, with at least 12 of these credits at the upper-division level.

All required coursework must be taken on campus and no more than 3 credits of online elective course work can be used toward the on-campus certificate.

 The remaining 17 credits can be taken from elective courses offered by the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) Program and from approved program courses offered in any school/department at OSU. However, at least 12 of these 17 credits must consist of approved program courses. An approved program course is one that has a focus on gender and/or women’s issues, is taught in a unit other than the WGSS Program, and has been approved as fulfilling the requirements of a WGSS Program course.
