- Waikato Management School holds the Triple Crown accreditation of EQUIS, AMBA and AACSB; the University states this places the school in the top 1% of business schools globally.
- After completing the qualification, students have the option to sit an examination with the Project Management Institute of New Zealand (PMI) to pursue Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification. The certification itself is not automatically awarded with the Graduate Certificate.
Programme Structure and Subjects / Topics
The Graduate Certificate consists of four compulsory 15-point papers:
- PRMGT300 – Business Operations in Project Management
This paper examines the management of operations within project environments from both strategic and operational perspectives. The 2026 paper information identifies topics around operational management and project-related business operations.
- PRMGT301 – Fundamentals of Project Management
This paper introduces fundamental project-management theory and develops practical project-management competencies. It draws on core concepts from the Project Management Body of Knowledge and encourages students to apply theory to practical situations.
- PRMGT302 – Agile Project Management
This paper examines practical project-management issues involving systems, processes and people, with particular attention to project success and failure through case studies.
- PRMGT303 – Applied Project Management
This is the capstone paper. Students apply learning from the other project-management papers to real-world projects and examine project challenges and success factors. The 2027 regulations specify PRMGT300, PRMGT301 and PRMGT302 as prerequisites, while the paper information strongly recommends taking them before or concurrently with PRMGT303.

International Student Visa Requirements
An important distinction applies to this programme: because the GradCertPM is fully online, an international student studying from outside New Zealand does not normally need a New Zealand student visa simply to undertake the online programme.
If a student intends to physically travel to New Zealand to undertake study, the appropriate visa requirements depend on the actual study arrangement and visa conditions. For a conventional international student studying in New Zealand, the relevant visa is generally the Fee Paying Student Visa.
Immigration New Zealand currently states that the Fee Paying Student Visa:
- Costs from NZD 850.
- Can allow a stay of up to 4 years.
- Has a current processing benchmark of 80% within 8 weeks.
- Requires an offer of place from an approved education provider.
- Requires evidence of sufficient tuition funding or an applicable scholarship.
- Requires sufficient living funds or an acceptable sponsor.
- Requires acceptable medical and travel insurance.
- Requires the applicant to meet health and character requirements.
- Requires genuine intentions to study.
- Requires evidence that the student can leave New Zealand at the end of the stay.
