Program Description

The Minor in Music is available for all Wright State students of any major who wish to increase their musical experience, competencies, and knowledge. The program includes coursework in Music Theory, Musicianship, Music Listening, Keyboard, Applied Music, and Music Ensembles.

Admission Requirements

Entrance into the Music Minor is by audition and interview.  

Residency Requirement:

A student who wishes to complete a minor in music must complete the program requirements provided in the Wright State University Academic Catalogue:  School of Music , Minor in Music degree. A student must pass a minimum of six hours in residency at the Wright State University School of Music.

 

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate basic skills and knowledge of the fundamentals of music theory and general musicianship skills like ear training, dictation and sight-singing.
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of music history, specifically the music of western culture.
  • Collaborate with musicians in large ensembles such as orchestra and/or choir.

I. Minor


MUSIC THEORY: 6 HOURS


MUSICIANSHIP: 2 HOURS


MUSIC HISTORY: 3 HOURS


KEYBOARD: 2 HOURS


APPLIED MUSIC (MUA) 2 SEMESTERS: 2-4 HOURS


LARGE ENSEMBLE (MUE): 4 HOURS


MUSIC ELECTIVES: 3 HOURS


TOTAL: 22-24 HOURS
