Program Description:

The Media Studies major will complete both theoretical and applied courses. The media curriculum requires students to demonstrate competencies related to communication and media, writing, performance, and production, with emphasis on ethics and critical thinking. As media communication continues to evolve, the curriculum will embrace the entrepreneurial spirit and social changes presented by emerging technologies of communication and information.

Admission Requirements:

Admission requirements are designed to be consistent with existing department requirements.  These requirements are as follows:

  1. Student must be an undergraduate and have junior status
  2. Student must have admission in another degree program
  3. Student must have completed 60 hours of coursework
  4. Student must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Communicate effectively with both written and oral skills.
  • Analyze from a social scientific perspective how humans create, transmit, receive and respond to messages. In particular intrapersonal and interpersonal communication is the emphasis of study for this degree.
  • Demonstrate mathematical literacy.
  • Evaluate arguments and evidence critically.
  • Apply the methods of the social sciences, natural sciences, and the arts and humanities.
  • Demonstrate global and multicultural competencies.
  • Demonstrate understanding of contemporary social and ethical issues.
  • Participate in democratic society as informed and civically engaged citizens.
