New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo (Rumaki Reo Rua) (Level 2)

Extend your language skills to communicate in familiar, everyday contexts as well as in Mori environments where you feel comfortable. Build knowledge for support roles in the public sector or in areas such as tourism, radio or khanga reo.

 

Programme outline

The intention of this programme is to progress learners with a basic understanding and ability in the use of te reo Mori to a foundational level. Graduates will be able to apply in-depth learning to everyday situations, including communicating respectfully with whnau, hap, iwi and Mori organisations.

 

The programme will be delivered part time over two semesters. It consists of four compulsory courses, with each course worth 15 credits each. Students must successfully pass all four courses to pass the programme.

 

Flexible study options

This programme is 36 weeks part-time (one night class a week).

This is a 60 credit programme. Classes are held one night per week from 5pm-7pm, Monday through to Thursday (subject to change).

 

Mana Tangata Rua

Students will use te reo Mori vocabulary, grammatical and whakapapa structures and when describing a person from their own hap.

 

Mana Whenua Rua

This course uses foundation level te reo Mori to express connections to the land and environment, prominent people and places of an area.

 

Mana Reo Rua

Learners will apply technical knowledge in selected contexts and develop an emerging respect for te reo as an expression. 

 

Mana Ao Troa Toru

Using foundation te reo Mori, students will work on greetings, phrases, vocabulary and grammatical structures to describe and discuss everyday events.
