Bachelor of Applied Information Technology Course Outline
Whitecliffe's Bachelor of Applied Information Technology programme is accredited by the IT industry. The degree is endorsed by IT professionals New Zealand and is part of the Seoul Accord, meaning graduates will have an internationally recognised qualification.
Students graduating with our Level 5 and 6 programmes will be able to transfer credits towards this degree.
This programme aims to prepare industry-ready graduates who are specialists in their chosen field of:
- Network Engineering and Security, or
- Software and Web Development
The programme includes a final IT project that includes an industry placement.
Bachelor of Applied Information Technology Programme Structure
The Bachelor of Applied Information Technology is a 360 credit programme, consisting of two specialisations: Network Engineering and Security or Software and Web Development. A full time student is expected to complete the programme in up to 3 years (108 weeks excluding study breaks).
Bachelor of Applied Information Technology: Year One
In this first year of 120 credits, students first complete four common 15 credit subjects before progressing to specialised subjects depending on whether they are learning Network Engineering and Security or Software and Web Development. This programme allows students to specialise much earlier than more degrees.

Bachelor of Applied Information Technology: Year Two
In year two students study 120 credits in their specialised fields. All courses are 15 credits at Level 6 and workplace soft skills are taught along with the concept of design thinking.

Bachelor of Applied Information Technology: Year Three
Year three consists of 120 credits and starts with three subjects in each specialised field, but at 20 credits. This allows for critical and creative thinking skills and design thinking.
The final part of this degree is the IT project. This provides real-world learning in the workplace partnering with an internal Academic Project Support and external Industry Mentor.
