Competency Assessment Programme - for Internationally Qualified Nurses

Overview

Please note: We are currently only accepting applications from domestic students for this programme. However, we may open this to international applicants (off-shore and on-shore) in the future.

This course is designed to provide internationally qualified nurses with an understanding of nursing in a New Zealand context and assess their competence to practice within a New Zealand healthcare setting. This course is ideal for internationally qualified nurses who currently live in New Zealand and want to become registered nurses in New Zealand's healthcare system.

The duration of this course is 12 weeks, and a mix of full- and part-time study, to enable some flexibility for students.

First, you’ll complete six weeks of theoretical study, including applied learning at Wait?kere Hospital’s Simulation Lab, to develop your understanding of contemporary nursing in New Zealand. Then you’ll complete six weeks of clinical practice. We're able to provide clinical practice placements in acute, primary, or aged care facilities only.
