Bachelor of Applied Science

Programme Structure & Subjects

The degree is three years long (360 credits), with progression through levels 5 to 7:

Year 1

  • Core fundamentals balancing theory and practice in areas such as:

    • Bioscience

    • Introduction to Sport

    • Introduction to Exercise

    • Introduction to Health

    • Community Project One

Year 2

  • Students broaden their knowledge and begin to specialise, choosing two advanced study streams:

    • Advanced Sport

    • Advanced Exercise

    • Advanced Health

    • Advanced Massage (requires pre-requisite Level 5 diploma)

  • Plus a larger community project to apply learning in a real context.

Year 3

  • Focus on a major community project, worth significant credits and tailored to your chosen area of interest within sport, health or exercise.

Visa Requirements (International Students)

If your Bachelor programme is longer than 3 months, you must apply for a New Zealand Student Visa before arriving. Visa requirements usually include:

  • Confirmation of enrolment from Otago Polytechnic
