International Student Visa Requirements

International students travelling to New Zealand to undertake the onshore component of this master's programme generally require a Fee Paying Student Visa unless another appropriate visa applies.

Immigration New Zealand requires students to satisfy the applicable requirements, including having an offer of place, demonstrating tuition funding, showing sufficient living funds, meeting health and character requirements where applicable, demonstrating genuine intentions to study and meeting insurance and outward-travel requirements.

For tertiary students studying in New Zealand, the current living-fund requirement is NZD $20,000 per year for study lasting one year or more. For study of less than one year, the requirement is NZD $1,667 per month.

Students must also demonstrate sufficient funds for outward travel or have an acceptable onward-travel arrangement.

Eligible student-visa holders can currently have work rights of up to 25 hours per week during study, subject to the conditions on their individual visa. NZSE specifically states 25-hour in-study work rights for this programme.

For post-study work, Immigration New Zealand currently recognises master's degrees among the degree-level qualifications that can qualify for a Post Study Work Visa. The current immigration rules allow eligible graduates to stay and work for up to three years depending on the qualification and study circumstances.

NZSE specifically advertises a three-year post-study work visa following successful completion of this master's programme. However, this is subject to the student's individual eligibility under Immigration New Zealand's rules at the time of application.
