Students study 120 credits over two semesters. The programme allows students to select one of three specialisations: Addiction, Community Health or Mental Health.

Latest Updates / Special Requirements

This programme is relatively new. NZSE announced its launch in September 2025 following NZQA approval.

An important programme-specific requirement is the work placement:

• Minimum 120 hours.
• Applies to the Addiction specialisation only.

Students undertaking the research pathway will conduct research specifically related to their chosen specialisation.

The programme is currently described as blended and onshore only. This is particularly important for international students because NZSE's news announcement clarifies that distance-online study is only available to domestic learners and to international learners who already hold a visa permitting online/onshore study.

Placement-specific requirements such as police checks, vaccinations, health screening, professional registration or other clinical-placement conditions are not fully specified on the programme page.

NZSE currently states that successful graduates have one year of post-study work visa entitlement and in-study work rights of 25 hours per week.
