Introduction to Management & Managing Yourself
This microcredential actively engages students in developing ‘oneself’ as a manager using individual and group practice-based activities and real-world case study scenarios. Core topics include understanding oneself, personal management styles and characteristics; understanding and appreciating individual difference; leading with empathy; cross cultural management; understanding emotions in the workplace; developing resilience and self-care; management styles and work; time management and priority setting; communications skills including active listening, supporting others, responsiveness, assertiveness, and presentation; networking.
Students (individually and within a team setting) will explore the important topic of management and why it matters. This microcredential will also allow the student to analyse effective management skills and to develop their personal, interpersonal and team skills which are essential to the practice of good management
The microcredential will be particularly valuable to managers in any sector who have had little or no formal management training and want to strengthen their managerial capabilities through the completion of a formal third level course that is highly practical in its orientation. It is also suitable for people working in non-managerial roles who wish to improve their career development in preparation for future management roles.
