Risk Assessment and Management of Psychosocial Risks (On-line)

Primary audiences: Those working in occupational health and safety across all sectors, occupational Health Nurses and Physicians, Health Promotion Specialists. HR managers. Workplace Welfare Officers and Quality Managers.

 

Secondary audiences: Those interested in moving into the area of occupational health promotion, mental health, wellbeing and risk prevention in the organisational and social work environment.

 

Module Objective: This module provides an applied perspective to the risk assessment and management of psychosocial risk factors at work and introduces contemporary psychosocial workplace issues and their management using case studies.



Module Content: The Centrepiece of this module is the risk management approach for the assessment and management of stressful work characteristics (e.g. work load, work schedules, task design, rewards, control and social relations). These are grounded in the UK management standards of work stressors and EU Frameworks and Directives for the management of psychosocial work factors which will be reviewed. The module introduces a systematic approach to the development of effective policies and supporting procedures in work settings and for the control of work stressors; including organisation of work, ergonomics and administrative and technical solutions.


Further topics include contemporary psychosocial workplace issues and their assessment and management such as the ageing workforce, work relationships and prevention of workplace bullying, suicide prevention and promotion of mental health and wellbeing and in the workplace
Definitions and historical evolution of the concept of risk will are discussed together with factors influencing the perception of risk and their significance in risk communication.
