Data handling assessment & presentation for freshwater quality monitoring

This module focuses on how to ensure that effective use is made of data from water quality monitoring programmes. Statistical techniques are demonstrated using freely available software. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are introduced for data storage, analysis and presentation. Statistical analyses and the associated presentation of the results are illustrated with worked examples. Key elements of a water quality assessment are presented. 

 

On successful completion of this module students should be able to: 

  • Evaluate and recommend different data handling and storage options for water quality data
  • Use freely available data storage and analysis software
  • Select examples of scenarios where GIS software is appropriate to store and analyse geographically referenced water quality data
  • Select and demonstrate appropriate methods for presenting water quality data from a range of water bodie
