This module introduces the student to cancer care for children and young people (CYP) for health care professionals that work in a variety of care settings e.g. paediatric oncology shared care unit (POSCU), Principle Treatment Centre’s (PTC) and Community. Students will develop essential knowledge and skills required to care for CYP with cancer. This is achieved by students developing an understanding of cancer as a disease and basic pathophysiology of cancer in relation to treatments. A blended learning approach is applied (including both classroom and online activities via VLE). Critical thinking and sharing practice experiences will be encouraged throughout the module.

Aims of the module:

  • To enable participants to explore and develop a critical understanding of current thinking and developments in the management of common CYP cancers.
  • To allow the student to experience a full range of cancers and apply theory to practice.
  • To equip students with the knowledge and skills in the side effects of cancer and the treatments, reflecting on improvements to supportive care for CYP with cancer
