For all modules and courses the applications portal will close 4 weeks before the start date. All applications must be submitted and funding confirmed before the portal closes. The focus of this module is cardio-respiratory support therapy and nursing management of the child with cardiovascular and/or respiratory compromise. Teaching and learning will explore conditions and situations leading to respiratory and circulatory compromise and its impact on the child and family. There will be strong emphasis on cardiovascular support and mechanical ventilation and its application in the clinical setting. On completion of this unit you should be able to apply theory to enhance your practice. On completion of the module the practitioner will be able to support and guide less experienced members of the multidisciplinary team.
Aims of the module
- To provide the student with comprehensive knowledge surrounding the disease processes and physiological changes necessitating the need for respiratory and/or cardiovascular support, and the subsequent impact on the child and family
- Promote critical analysis and synthesis of the principles underpinning theory in the management of respiratory and cardiovascular compromise in the Paediatric intensive Care.
- To provide the student with an exceptional understanding of potential long-term outcomes for the child or young person requiring cardiac and respiratory support therapies, and their family.
