This module will explore and challenge current working practices within the Operating Department: in the surgical setting. The teaching and learning methods will be interactive, participatory and student led. Day to day clinical issues will be explored using a combination of problem solving, and action learning approaches. Students will be encouraged to be actively involved in the development of solutions to practice dilemmas. Students on this module will be assessed on both a theory and competence component. It is expected that students will have a full time post with in a theatre department and the support of their manager to achieve competencies within the specialism. The department will also need to be able to support the student in learning additional surgical specialities for the duration of the course. Students need to organise with their manager their own placement mentors.
