Contemporary District Nursing Practice (Supervised Practice) (Level 6)

For all modules and courses the applications portal will close 4 weeks before the start date. All applications must be submitted and funding confirmed before the portal closes. Any applications that have not been processed and or do not have funding confirmed from the sponsor organisation before the portal closure will not be accepted by the IHSC administrator staff

The practice component takes place throughout the whole programme. Students have an allocated placement and work under the supervision of a Practice Assessor and / or Practice Supervisor for 50% of the programme. Learning is in and from experiences in practice.

Students are supernumerary throughout the placement; they progress from direct to indirect supervision and learn from working with clients and in settings that are central to the responsibilities of a district nurse as well as those that are important but not central to the responsibilities of the district nurse i.e. additional experience and alternative practice.

The module gives students the opportunity to develop as reflective practitioners with sufficient depth and variety of practice/professional exposure to emerge as confident, assertive, capable and safe practitioners. This part of the programme comprises supervised and consolidated practice.
