The need for high quality person-centred care delivered by district nurses in local communities outside hospital is a key feature of contemporary health and care policy in England. This module engages the student district nurse with management research, theory and literature and encourages students’ critical consideration of operational and strategic management.

Students will apply theory and practice relating to service provision, design and delivery in contemporary situations including the care of older people, those with long-term conditions and those at the end of life requiring terminal and palliative care.

This module will enable the student district nurse to develop an understanding of operation and strategic management in line with contemporary health service policy and legislation. Using evidence informed practice students consider strategies for achieving cost effective and efficient service provision. Throughout the module, students will explore and develop strategies for service design, development and delivery to meet population health needs and service priorities.
