- The current MFEng regulations came into force on 1 January 2026.
- The programme remains a 180-point qualification with a 36-month maximum completion period.
- There are no majors, minors or endorsements.
- Students must satisfy specific mathematics, statistics and finance prerequisites before admission.
- A B+ GPA in 300-level courses is specified in the formal admission regulations.
- Students without FINC201-equivalent preparation may be required to complete FIEC601 before entering the MFEng.
- FIEC601 is offered as a January–February preparation course and can serve as a FINC201 equivalent for MFEng entry.
- The 2026 course regulations show FINC612, FINC623, MATH412, STAT456 and FENG601 as campus courses.
- COSC480 has both campus and UC Online occurrences in 2026.
- FINC624 Asset Pricing and FINC628 Risk Analysis are listed as not offered in 2026, while FINC629 Credit Risk Management is offered in Semester 1. Course availability can change.
- The qualification has no separate exit qualification.

International Student Visa Requirements
For an international student coming to New Zealand to study the MFEng, the usual visa is the Fee Paying Student Visa.
Immigration New Zealand currently requires applicants to:
- Have an offer of place from an approved education provider.
- Have sufficient funds to pay tuition fees or have an acceptable scholarship.
- Have sufficient money for living expenses or an acceptable sponsor.
- Declare that they will have insurance acceptable to the education provider.
- Meet health and character requirements.
- Demonstrate genuine intention to study.
- Provide evidence of onward travel or sufficient funds to leave New Zealand.
