Latest Updates / Special Requirements
The programme has undergone a qualification/name transition.
The current qualification is Master of Geospatial Data Science (MGDS), formerly the Master of Geospatial Science and Technology. The current formal regulations came into force on 1 January 2025.
The 2026 regulations are particularly important because they provide the formal course structure and admission requirements.
A notable requirement is prior GIS preparation. Applicants need the required undergraduate GIS background or GISC422/an approved equivalent. Students without the required preparation may need to complete additional approved study before admission.
International Student Visa Requirements
International students normally require a New Zealand Fee Paying Student Visa for this programme.
Immigration New Zealand currently states that the Fee Paying Student Visa:
- Costs from NZD 850.
- Can be granted for up to 4 years.
- Has an advertised processing timeframe of 80% within 8 weeks.
- Requires an offer of place from an approved education provider.
- Requires evidence of tuition funding or a scholarship.
- Requires evidence of sufficient living funds.
- Requires acceptable medical and travel insurance.
- Requires applicants to satisfy health, character and genuine-intention requirements.
