Latest Updates / Special Requirements

  • The current UC programme page lists the PGCertEng for February and July starts.
  • The current international tuition information lists a 2027 international tuition estimate of NZD 27,300 for 60 points.
  • The 2026 qualification regulations remain the controlling source for the qualification's formal structure and admission rules.
  • The programme requires Faculty of Engineering approval of the student's programme of study.
  • Fire Engineering courses have prerequisite requirements. For example, ENFE601 requires ENGR403 or approval from the Head of Department, while ENFE602 requires ENGR403.
  • There is no separate exit qualification for the PGCertEng.
  • A student may potentially transfer to a Master of Engineering in Fire Engineering or Master of Engineering before completing the certificate if the research-potential, GPA, course and approval requirements are satisfied.


International Student Visa Requirements

For an international student studying the PGCertEng in New Zealand, the relevant visa is generally the Fee Paying Student Visa.

Current Immigration New Zealand requirements include:

  • Visa cost: from NZD 850.
  • Maximum stay: up to 4 years.
  • Current processing information: 80% within 8 weeks.
  • An offer of place from an approved education provider is required.
  • Students must demonstrate sufficient funds to pay tuition fees or have an appropriate scholarship.
  • Students must demonstrate sufficient living funds or have an acceptable sponsor.
  • Acceptable insurance must be declared.
  • Applicants must satisfy other health, character and genuine-intention requirements.
