The Postgraduate Certificate in Specialist Teaching is not open to new enrolments. UC advises interested students to contact Te Kaupeka Ako | Faculty of Education for updates.

UC's regulations page also documents the discontinuation status, with the regulations page stating that the programme was not open to new enrolments in 2024.

A UC governance document explains that the PGCertSpecTchg and Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching were being discontinued as part of changes to the specialist-teaching qualification suite, with the Master of Specialist Teaching becoming the relevant replacement qualification.

For an international applicant, the current combination of programme closure and New Zealand teacher-registration requirements makes this qualification unsuitable to present as an available new-student pathway without confirmation directly from UC.

International Student Visa Requirements

Because the programme is currently closed to new enrolments, an international student cannot presently obtain an Offer of Place for a new enrolment in this qualification based on the current programme page.

For an available UC programme, UC states that an international student studying in New Zealand requires a valid student visa. The normal visa application documentation includes:

• Offer of Place from UC
• Evidence of tuition-fee payment
• Valid passport identification
• Proof of funds of NZ$20,000 per year for living expenses
• Return air ticket or evidence of sufficient funds to leave New Zealand
• Accommodation guarantee if the student is under 18
• Visa application fee
• Medical/chest X-ray documentation where required by Immigration New Zealand.
