Special Requirements / Important Points for International Students

1. Relevant academic background

A bachelor's degree in IT or a related field is normally expected, together with a B-grade average at Level 7 or 8 and relevant professional experience.

2. Work experience

NMIT specifically refers to relevant professional experience and indicates that equivalence can include two years of relevant work/professional experience.

3. Non-IT bachelor's degree

Applicants from another academic field may potentially qualify if they have substantial IT-related professional experience. NMIT may assess this through a portfolio or interview.

4. English

IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or an accepted equivalent.

5. BYOD

Students must have their own laptop meeting NMIT's specifications and a 256GB internal SSD.

6. Attendance / visa compliance

International students studying in New Zealand must comply with their visa conditions, including study and attendance requirements.


New Zealand Student Visa Requirements

For an international student studying this 18-month, full-time master's programme in New Zealand, the relevant visa route will generally be the Fee Paying Student Visa, subject to the student's individual circumstances and Immigration New Zealand's requirements.

Immigration New Zealand states that applicants for this visa need an offer of place from an approved education provider and must demonstrate that they have sufficient funds for tuition and living expenses, as well as acceptable insurance.

Financial requirement

For tertiary study, Immigration New Zealand currently requires evidence of:

NZ$20,000 per year for living costs when studying for one year or more.

This is in addition to tuition fees, unless applicable prepaid accommodation or other acceptable funding arrangements reduce the amount that must be demonstrated.
