  • Construction core skills — materials, tools, methods and systems for timber-framed construction.
  • Reading and using project specifications/drawings — basic interpretation skills to perform tasks.
  • Simple building calculations — essential math for practical construction tasks.
  • Installation and application processes — physically building structural elements such as frames, cladding and linings.

Project Experience

  • Hands-on builds — such as prefabricated timber sleepouts and basic structures — to build confidence and skills.

 

Disciplines or Specialisations

  • This is a focused carpentry strand of the broader New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills.

  • The qualification is intended to prepare learners specifically for construction/carpentry roles and paths toward apprenticeships.

  • After this Level 3 course, you can progress to apprenticeship training and then a Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry if you intend to become a fully-qualified carpenter.
