This specialisation introduces grammar, vocabulary and kanji which are equivalent to level N3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. There’s emphasis on the interactive use of the Japanese language and a focus on practical, everyday use of the Japanese language.

You’ll discuss a wide range of topics such as Japanese ambiguity and indirectness. Reading materials include authentic texts on Japanese culture containing complex sentence structures and highly idiomatic expressions.

Interactive tutorials include practice on how to make predictions, give compliments, and engage in a debate or discussion. Honorific forms are also introduced.

You will compare and contrast Japanese culture with your own, and other cultures through situating the use of the Japanese language in relevant social and cultural contexts.

What's a specialisation?

A specialisation is a set of four units you can choose to complement your course. Most Curtin courses allow you to choose a specialisation from any academic area. Humanities specialisations, like this one, can give a useful balance to a course from business, law, science, engineering or health disciplines.
