Chinese Language Specialisation
This specialisation introduces you to basic communicative skills in Mandarin Chinese at an elementary level.
You’ll acquire the four essential language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing through ample practice in communicative activities supported by digital technology. You’ll be introduced to Chinese society, Chinese culture and the structure of the Chinese language through mini-lectures, audio-visual presentations and real-time classroom-based or online tutorials.
A communication-oriented approach will help you develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing in Standard Modern Chinese, so you can interact with speakers of Chinese in simple day-to-day situations.
The cultural significance of language usage will be examined, together with systematic discussion of appropriate manners and social etiquette to enable effective communication.
What's a specialisation?
A specialisation is a set of four units you can choose to complement your course. Most Curtin courses allow you to choose a specialisation from any academic area. Humanities specialisations, like this one, can give a useful balance to a course from business, law, science, engineering or health disciplines.
