The Doctor of Philosophy (Joint PhD with IITB) is a research-intensive program that allows students to develop their own research skills and knowledge. Students in this program will work with supervisors from both Monash University and IITB to conduct research on an agreed topic. The program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to become leaders in their field. The program is open to both domestic and international students. Applicants must have a strong academic background and a research proposal that is approved by the program committee.

This course consists of:

  • a research and thesis component
  • a professional development training program (Only if Monash is Home Institute)

You must, in consultation with and under the direct supervision of a member/s of the academic staff:

  1. carry out a program of research on an agreed topic approved by the school of enrolment in your chosen discipline for a specified period, including attending and/or presenting at seminars and other related activities as indicated by the school
  2. submit for assessment a thesis of not more than 80,000 words on the program of research which meets the requirements of the examiners. Submission of a thesis including published works may be permitted.
  3. satisfactorily complete the following program of professional development training (Only if Monash is Home Institute): Science PhD program
  4. undertake any additional requirements specific to IITB, including an oral defence as part of meeting IITB’s examination provisions.
