Supporting Improved Student Behaviour at School
School-wide positive behaviour interventions and supports (SWPBIS; also known as PBIS and PB4L) is a framework that brings together school communities to develop positive, safe, and supportive learning cultures for all students and teachers. SWPBIS is an equity-focused and inclusive framework that supports teachers and school leaders to meet the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of students in early childhood, primary, and secondary school contexts. Research shows that the implementation of the SWPBIS framework in schools is associated with improved student academic outcomes, improved perceptions of school safety, reductions in challenging student behaviour, and reductions in the use of exclusionary discipline practices.
In this short course, educators, school leaders, and other professionals will be introduced to the theory, practices, and systems of SWPBIS. Across three modules, course participants will learn practical ways to select, adapt, and implement practices and systems to support the inclusion and participation of all students using a whole-of-school framework.
