COURSE OVERVIEW

This CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry provides a trade outcome in carpentry, covering work in residential and commercial applications.

The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as a specialist field of work.
The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context.

Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCWHS1001 covers this requirement.

ASSESSMENT

The Assessment Process is based on the principles of competency-based training. The performance of learners is assessed on their ability to perform the task(s) to industry standards. In order to ensure the principles of validity are upheld variety of learning styles and a range of assessment strategies are used.

Assessment for each unit of competency will be through a combination of classroom based and work placement tasks. Classroom based assessments include but are not limited to:

• Classroom Exercises
• Assignments
• Practical Demonstrations
• Group Activities
• Projects
• Verbal and/or Written Questions

Students are advised well in advance of the assessment activities and a student may put forward for consideration, any special needs they may have. The assessment criterion is documented in all units and workbooks. Dates of the assessments are provided on the first day of class along with a timetable. Students may be assessed by a combination of continuous assessments and examinations. Continuous assessments may be based on competencies and marks or a combination of both.

VOCATIONAL PLACEMENT

The Work Experience or Vocational Placement component of the qualification is delivered in term 7 and 8 over a 20 weeks period for up to 24 hours per week to meet 480 hours work experience requirement. Work experience can be used to assist students to develop employability skills and an understanding of the work environment, career options and pathways as a positive foundation for their life-long learning.
