Law and Practice LLB(Hons)

Our Law and Practice LLB(Hons) course prepares you for an exciting career in legal practice, with special emphasis on getting you ready to take the new Solicitors Qualifying Exams (SQE1). Whether your aim is to become a solicitor or to work in industry, this course will ensure you stand out.

 

This course is designed to develop your skills in advocacy, legal drafting, and legal research, allowing you to develop competences which are required to be a solicitor. You’ll also gain a host of transferrable skills, such as:

  • how to construct an argument
  • how to communicate with clients
  • attention to detail
  • the ability to work on your own and as part of a team.

Our flexible course structures mean that you can wait until the end of Year 2 to decide whether you want to take an academic route and enrol onto our LLB (Hons) Law or one of our practice-focused courses, or Master’s in Law and Practice.

 

Employability skills are embedded within our curriculum. Plus, a range of extra curriculum activities are on offer which will support you to enhance your skills further. These skills are desirable to employers in both legal and non-legal sectors. You can also benefit from hands-on experience at the Legal Advice Centre too.

 

You’ll participate in national and international Moot competitions, a professional mentoring scheme, the Law School challenge and a law Careers Fair, developing both legal and employability skills as well as networking for future careers.

 

In addition to specialised legal databases (i.e., Westlaw, Lexis Library) and journals (via Heinonline, Jstor), you’ll have access to over 200 law eBooks (textbooks) via Law Trove. These are all included in your course fees.

 

You’ll be taught my both practitioners and legal academics who bring their industry and research expertise into classroom teaching.

 

Plus, 91% of graduates from this subject are in work and/or further study 15 months after graduating (HESA Graduate Outcomes 19/20, UK domiciled graduates).
