Practice Education for Paramedics (HHH3010)
This course is aimed at qualified paramedics working within the Ambulance Service. It helps prepare you to act as a practice educator to students studying on pre-registration paramedic education programmes, approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), as well as newly qualified paramedics during their preceptorship period.
- This course was developed in consultation with local employers and will enable you to meet the standard for ‘Practice Educators’ (College of Paramedics 2017).
- You will undertake most of your learning in practice through your work with students.You will be supervised by an experienced practice educator (paramedic) who will support you in applying teaching and learning theory and research to your teaching in clinical practice.
- Practice based learning will be supported through research informed taught sessions and directed activities. It will provide you with an opportunity to develop your critical thinking skills and enhance your knowledge and skills in facilitating learning in paramedic practice.
Practice education is a multi-faceted role which includes drawing on excellent interpersonal skills to teach, assess, facilitate and role model expert practice. Practice based education is a critical component of the learning and development of the future paramedic and underpins lifelong learning.
