Caring for Children and Young People (Distance Learning)

This unique course is aimed at those healthcare professionals who come into contact with children in their work, rather than those who have specialised in the care of children. Children differ physiologically, emotionally and developmentally so therefore require an individualised approach to care. This course offers you an opportunity to further develop your knowledge and skills in caring for the specific needs of children and young people.

  • You will be taught by the child nursing academic team who have wide ranging expertise and experience in child nursing.
  • You will explore the anatomical and physiological differences in children, as well as normal child development.
  • The ethical, legal and professional issues in caring for children and young people will be explored.
  • You will be taught how to spot a sick child and about the injured child, as well as medical and surgical conditions seen in children.

This course is not suitable for those trained as children’s nurses. It may be of relevance to you if, for example, you work in an accident and emergency setting, walk in centre or GP surgery.
