Cervical Screening
This course provides registered adult nurses the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in cervical screening, as well as gain university credit which could be used towards further study. It will assist you to gain the knowledge and skills required to competently take cervical samples and enhance your knowledge of the pathophysiology involved in cervical cytology. * This course is based upon the guidance of the National Health Cervical Screening Programme. In order to support you in developing your skills, experienced external mentors will be provided. * You will be taught by clinicians who are qualified cervical screeners. * You will utilise an online portfolio in order to ensure that your training is documented and meets national quality assurance. * You will consider the factors affecting the uptake of the screening programme.
Teaching and assessment
You will be taught through a series of lectures and work-based learning. Your studies will be supported by the University's virtual learning environment.
Assessment will include submission of workbooks and completion of a practice assessment document. As well as submission of a 2000 word assignment. Your module specification will provide full details of the assessment criteria.
Feedback (usually written) is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks – unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results. Feedback on exam performance/final coursework is available on request after the publication of results.
