This course is aimed at Podiatrists who wish to develop their foot and ankle assessment and diagnosis skills, via the use of appropriate imaging and a range of clinical tests. It will build upon your existing diagnosis skills through the use of diagnostic imaging and clinically relevant lab tests.

• The course provides you with the opportunity to develop the competences required to demonstrate an understanding of the various approaches to imaging and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of imaging techniques and their use in the evaluation of pathology.
• You will be introduced to the general principles that underpin the interpretation of diagnostic images taken using a variety of imaging techniques. As well as a systematic approach to the interpretation of podiatric images and outline how pathology is manifested.
• You will demonstrate how to utilise imaging and other clinical investigations to aid diagnosis and inform surgical and musculoskeletal decision making and critically evaluate the validity of x-ray and other measurements in surgical practice.

 

Teaching and assessment

You will be taught through a series of lectures, practical classes and demonstrations, which will be supported by the University’s virtual learning environment.

 

Assessment will include a cased based Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and submission of a 3000 word assignment. Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course.

 

Feedback (usually written) is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks – unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results. Feedback on exam performance/final coursework is available on request after the publication of results.
