As a health or social care professional you will come into contact with individuals who have a diagnosis of a learning disability. In addition to having a learning disability, they may also have additional needs or diagnoses, including autism.

 

This course provides an opportunity for you to: * Develop your knowledge and understanding of the legal, ethical and professional obligations when working with people who have a learning disability. * Become more confident as you implement key legislation and ethical principles pertaining to people with learning disabilities. * Use case study examples in order to participate in reflective exercises to allow you to evaluate your current knowledge and skills and build upon them.

 

Teaching and assessment

The course will be delivered through face-to-face seminars and workshops that will be supported by a wealth of high-quality online content designed to inspire and stimulate you to engage in the course and develop your own practice. Using case study examples, you will be encouraged to participate in reflective practice to allow you to evaluate your current knowledge and skills and build upon these.

 

You will be assessed through individual reflection in form of a written assignment. Feedback (usually written) is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks – unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results. Feedback on exam performance/final coursework is available on request after the publication of results.
