The aim of the course is to equip learners to develop the knowledge and skills to support high quality learning in a wide range of contexts. It is designed as a sound preparation for higher level study in the broad social and health sciences and education fields. The course is delivered via a combination of face-to-face workshops and online activities. It is aimed at those who wish to pursue postgraduate and/or professional qualifications at levels 8 or 9 who have not been in education for some time and would like to upskill in academic writing and research.

 

The course comprises two modules. One focuses on academic writing and scholarship and the other on research methods. More specifically the course aims:

• To foster an understanding of scholarship and develop the skills needed to engage with, use and contribute to it,
• To develop the skills needs to write well academically,
• To promote critical and analytical engagement with literature and evidence,
• To critically consider the research methodologies used in the social and health sciences.
