Master of Engineering (MEng) in Mechanical Engineering

The Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering program is a professionally oriented master’s degree program that provides advanced knowledge and experiential opportunities beyond that of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. This programme provides a detailed knowledge of advanced methods in Mechanical Engineering including theoretical foundations, and computational and experimental methods. Furthermore, a focus is placed on applying the knowledge and skills gained through the programme to real challenges within the manufacturing and mechanical engineering sectors. The programme has been developed to meet the needs of the regional and national engineering industry, which requires graduates with high-level skills in design, analysis and testing. In addition, the course fulfils the requirements of Engineers Ireland for a Master’s degree in an engineering discipline as the minimum educational standard for Chartered Engineer status.

The programme has been designed to provide a flexible route to masters qualification and is available in both full-time (2 days per week for 1 year) and part-time (1 day per week for 2 years) delivery modes with significant focus placed on the research dissertation, completed over the duration of the course.

The course comprises of 60 ECTS Credits of taught modules and 30 ECTS Credits for the research dissertation. Students will have the option to carry out the research dissertation on a speci?c topic, relevant to the program of study, informed by their particular background or areas of interest.
